Product walkthrough, not engineering design advice
Start with the process and drawing
You do not need to begin with the advanced engineering panels. Gather the operating conditions and the proposed thermowell drawing, then follow the two input steps in the calculator.
Use the process conditions supplied for the design. If you have only a typical operating point, ask the responsible engineer whether it represents the full required operating range before treating a calculated result as a final design decision.
1. Enter the process conditions
Choose the process medium, then enter temperature, pressure, fluid velocity, density and viscosity. Check the units beside each field: a value in centipoise is not a value in pascal-seconds.
Gas is a fluid too. Density and viscosity should describe the medium at the stated conditions, not a convenient room-temperature value. Where the app offers a property prefill, read its basis and limitations before using it.
2. Describe the thermowell
Select the material designation, stem profile and process connection. The material catalogue supplies the calculation properties; ordinary use does not require you to type in a modulus or fatigue limit.
Enter the dimensions from the drawing and use the dimensional view to check what each measurement refers to. Unsupported length is measured from the applicable support plane to the tip; do not substitute an overall length simply because it appears on the same drawing.
Complete the connection-specific fields that appear. A screwed connection needs its thread information; a flanged construction needs its flange details. The advanced controls remain available for project-specific information and qualified alternative inputs.
3. Read both parts of the result
The calculated outcome tells you whether the performed checks passed or failed. A separate review status describes the engineering basis and any outstanding conditions. Neither should be read in isolation.
Open the detailed results when you need to understand which check governs. If an input or method condition prevents a complete calculation, follow the stated explanation; an incomplete result is not evidence that changing the thermowell is necessarily required.
4. Save the report and keep related work together
Add your report reference and other optional document details, then save the report or download its PDF. Downloads are also saved to the signed-in account. Open Calculation Reports from the dashboard to retrieve the report, edit the calculation as a new revision or duplicate it.
Choose a project when calculations belong together. Projects organise related calculations and saved reports so you can return to the work later. Check the save status before leaving an edited project.
Before manufacture or specification
Check the inputs, recorded assumptions, applicability and any outstanding review items with the engineer responsible for the installation. The calculator assists thermowell design; a generated PDF is not ASME certification or independent design approval.
