    Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Wake Frequency Calculator.

    General

    What is Wake Frequency Calculator?

Wake Frequency Calculator is a guided thermowell design-checking tool. Start with the essential process and drawing values for a preliminary design view, then add the engineering detail needed for a complete wake-frequency, stress, fatigue and pressure assessment.

Does it follow the ASME PTC 19.3 TW-2016 standard?

The calculator uses selected calculation methods from ASME PTC 19.3 TW-2016. The calculated outcome and engineering-review status are shown separately. Conditions outside an implemented method are identified rather than given an unsupported PASS. The tool is an engineering aid, not ASME certification or design approval.

    Who is it for?

Thermowell manufacturers and the process, instrumentation, mechanical and piping engineers who develop, specify or review thermowells. The same workflow supports early design screening and a more detailed engineering assessment.

    Technical

    What thermowell profiles are supported?

Straight, tapered, and stepped stem profiles. Each profile uses the appropriate ASME correction factors and geometry calculations.

What connection types can I analyze?

The workflow supports flanged, flanged full-penetration welded, lap-joint / Van Stone, threaded / screwed, welded-in and socket-welded construction, with connection-relevant mounting and pressure inputs.

How does the calculator handle unresolved flange ratings?

The calculator does not embed or infer flange pressure-temperature ratings. For a flanged design, enter the applicable Pf from a controlled project, manufacturer, standard-table or verified calculation source, with its document/revision and confirmation at design temperature. Without it, the report can state whether the calculated stem and tip checks Pc/Pt pass, but clearly marks Pf NOT EVALUATED and does not claim a complete flange or Pr pressure PASS.

    What materials are available?

Select the thermowell material designation and the calculator automatically supplies the density, temperature-dependent modulus, allowable stress, material class and fatigue basis used by the calculation. Expert users can replace those values only when verified project-specific material data is required.

    Account

    Can I export reports?

You can generate a PDF assessment and save calculation reports to your account. Read the calculated outcome together with the separate review status and any incomplete checks; a downloaded report does not itself establish engineering approval.

    How do I get support?

Use the contact form for questions about access, using the calculator or reporting a problem.

    Support

Can you help with custom thermowell designs?

Use the contact form for help operating the calculator or reporting a product issue. Project-specific design decisions and final acceptance must be made by a competent engineer responsible for the installation.
